I am Gatsby
i am realy glad Dr. K put the prompts on her blog because i havent been able to think at all about what to blog about. i think this story would have been way more of a lovr story if gatsby would have narrated this book nick did a good job playing up the american dream stuff which ties into the stuff we are learning about in class but i think the story would have had a much more interesting theme if was a love story told bu gatsby. his love for daisy you could tell was deep i wonder what kind of stories of the past he could tell, like talk a little more about the girl he loved in luisivill

ReplyDeleteWhat quotes/scenes in particular do you think would change if they were written from Gatsby's perspective? I think it would be interesting to try to reimagine a specific conversation or scene.
Josh I would agree with you on the statement that if the story were told by Gatsby himself, it would have definitely been more of a love story novel. In reading Dr. K's comment about a particular scene that came to my mind immediately was the scene where Gatsby was meeting Daisy again for the first time since they had separated years ago. I think this scene would have been good because it would have given the reader a better picture of what Gatsby was thinking and feeling during that moment.
ReplyDeleteOne other thing that I think would have made the love story between Gatsby and Daisy even deeper would have been seeing the story of their beginnings told from his perspective. In the story we are just told that Daisy was going to go see a soldier and that her parents wouldn't allow it, and later found out that the soldier was Gatsby. If Gatsby would have been the narrator recounting that memory, we would have been able to see how much he cared. It makes me wonder what he would have been thinking waiting on Daisy to arrive and what his thoughts were when she didn't show up.
i agree with you nikki this scene where they for 6the first time in a long time really leaves you wondering what was said i would have liked to have read it threw his eyes or even his thoughts
ReplyDeleteJosh you are right the story would have been more of a love story if Gatsby had told it. We as readers would have had a totaly different view of dasy and her relationship with Tom if Gatsby had told the story. We would have also had a different perspective on the American Dream also. I think Gatsby would have showed that the American Dream was still alive a kicking not on it's way out
ReplyDeleteback to the scene where the two meet for the first time again the part i really would have liked to have read from him was his thoughts when he first lays eyes on her its been so long since he seen her only from his eyes or his mind could we know what he was thinking
